چکیده
N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) are molecules produced by many Gram-negative bacteria as mediators of cell-cell signaling in a mechanism known quorum sensing (QS). QS is widespread marine regulating diverse processes, such virulence or excretion polymers that mediate biofilm formation. Associated eukaryotes, microalgae, respond to these cues well, leading an intricate network. To date, only very few studies attempted measure AHL concentrations phototrophic microbial communities, which hot spots for bacteria-bacteria well microalgae-bacteria interactions. quantification environmental samples challenging and requires robust reproducible sampling strategy. However, knowing about opens up multiple perspectives from answering fundamental ecological questions deriving guidelines manipulation control biofilms. Here, we present method identification intertidal sediments. The use contact cores sediment ensures sample surface area volume at each location. Flash-freezing the with liquid nitrogen prevents enzymatic degradation between extraction. After solvent extraction, were analyzed ultra-high performance chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) allows baseline-separate 16 different AHLs less than 10 min. sensitivity sufficient detection cm3.

Thiourea-catalyzed aminolysis of N-acyl homoserine lactones.
Thiourea catalysts accelerate aminolysis of N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs), molecules integral to bacterial quorum sensing. The catalysts afford rate enhancement of up to 10 times the control in CD(3)CN. Mild catalysis in other polar aprotic solvents is still observed, while the activity is attenuated in polar protic solvents.

Bacteria use small secreted chemicals or peptides as auto-inducers to coordinately regulate gene expression within a population in a process called quorum sensing. Quorum sensing controls several important functions in different bacterial species, including the production of virulence factors and biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and bioluminescence in Vibrio fischeri. Many gram-negat...

Many Gram-negative bacteria employ N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) as signal molecules for quorum sensing. The binding of AHLs to their target LuxR-type receptor proteins can effect changes in growth, virulence, and other phenotypes. LuxR-type receptors therefore present attractive pharmaceutical targets for control of bacterial pathogenesis. Here, we present X-ray crystallographic and comput...
متن کاملAre there acyl-homoserine lactones within mammalian intestines?
Many Proteobacteria are capable of quorum sensing using N-acyl-homoserine lactone (acyl-HSL) signaling molecules that are synthesized by LuxI or LuxM homologs and detected by transcription factors of the LuxR family. Most quorum-sensing species have at least one LuxR and one LuxI homolog. However, members of the Escherichia, Salmonella, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter genera possess only a single ...

Quorum sensing (QS) is a density-dependent mechanism allowing bacteria to synchronize their physiological activities, mediated by a wide range of signaling molecules including N-acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs). Production of AHL has been identified in various marine strains of Proteobacteria. However, the chemical diversity of these molecules still needs to be further explored. In this study, w...
